How to Celebrate a Budget-Friendly Valentine’s Day

by Kimble Schiller

Even if you’re on a budget, you still want to show your Valentine that you care. Here are some things to do to show your love to your wallet as well as your significant other this Valentine’s Day:

♡ Cook a Romantic Dinner Together
Plan a menu, cook together, and set the table with candles. We promise, it’ll be cheaper than going out.

♡ Movie Night
Choose a favorite movie or romantic classic. Set up a cozy movie night with blankets, popcorn, or your preferred snacks.

♡ Write Love Letters
Take a moment to write heartfelt notes to each other on your best available stationary and read them aloud. Decorate them to make them cute so the other can save the letter.

♡ Memory Jar or Scrapbook
Fill a jar or create a scrapbook with photos, ticket stubs, and notes from your relationship. The love letters can go in here too!

♡ Create a DIY Spa Night
Use affordable bath salts, face masks, and candles for a relaxing evening of shared self-care.

♡ Stargazing
Find a quiet outdoor spot, put down a blanket, and turn off all your lights. Enjoy the night sky together, maybe even try to point out some constellations to each other.

♡ Visit a Local Park
Enjoy the outdoors during the daylight, too. Atlanta is blessed with wonderful parks throughout the city.
Take a Valentine’s Day stroll through one of the three National Parks in Atlanta. If you’re downtown, look at Woodruff or Centennial Olympic Park. The Westside Reservoir Park is a good option, along with the more intimate Sara J. Gonzalez Memorial Park. If in Midtown, go through either Piedmont Park, or for the active types, Historic Fourth Ward Skatepark. In Buckhead, you and your special somebody can relax at Chastain Park.
Whichever you pick, they’re all lovely this year – almost as lovely as your date (be sure to tell them that).

♡ Visit a Free Museum
Atlanta is packed with free museums. For instance, David J. Sencer CDC Museum for our medically-minded dates, Robert C. Williams Museum of Papermaking at Georgia Tech, Atlanta Monetary Museum at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, Georgia Capitol Museum, and the Fernbank Science Center are all educational and budget friendly.
Pick one or make a day of museum hopping!

♡ Learn Something New
Watch a free YouTube tutorial on something you’re both interested in learning more about. Whether it be a documentary, a dancing routine, origami, or a craft to do together.

♡ Create a Playlist
Make a personalized playlist of songs that remind you of your relationship. You can make one together, or curate songs separately to then share with one another.

Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be expensive to be memorable. The best gift you can give is thoughtfulness, time, and attention to your special someone.
Love doesn’t need to come with a hefty price tag. After all, the most valuable moments are the ones spent with the people who matter most.
