- Explore the Outdoors
Atlanta is home to a variety of gorgeous greenspaces, and the weather right now is perfect for taking advantage of them.
Centennial Olympic Park, Piedmont Park, and Woodruff Park are all open to the public, and might even be hosting free events, especially Woodruff.
For those more committed to hiking, the Silver Comet trail is impressive not only for it’s beauty, but for its size, totally 61.5 miles long total!
There’s a massive selection of parks, cemeteries, trails, lakes, and forests in and around Atlanta. Look into what you might find relaxing!
- Walk the Beltline
While everything on the beltline is certainly not free, the abundant street art, fascinating people, and lively bars and restaurants all invite visitors and locals to explore the city on foot or on wheels (see about renting a bike or bringing your own!)
Although the lovely selection of shops might challenge your financial discipline, walking the Beltline is still a fantastic way to enjoy Atlanta while getting your steps in.
- Take in the Art
On the second Sunday of each month, the Museum of High Art offers free admission for all visitors and special family-friendly programming!
Underground Atlanta holds a monthly First Friday event that showcases performances, characters, and works of art. On the street, you’ll find vendors, performances, food, and good vibes.
Every second Friday of each month, in the Historic Arts District, Castleberry Hill comes alive for the Art Stroll– a free, self-guided tour of vibrant art exhibits.
Last but not least, visits to Atlanta Contemporary are always free to the public.
- Learn Some History
Atlanta is home to free monuments such as the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site, the Anne Frank Museum and even the Georgia State Capitol building. We also encourage you to visit the National Archives and read up on things about our local history that you might find fascinating or insightful.
- Enjoy the Views
Never take for granted the gorgeous skylines ATL offers! Especially if you’re interested in photography or drawing, or you just need a sight to take your breath away, there are plenty of cheap ways to appreciate the sights.
The best views of Atlanta include the panoramic skyline view from the Jackson Street Bridge, Skyline Park on the roof of Ponce City Market (charges admission), or natural vistas from Stone Mountain and Kennesaw Mountain.
- Keep an Eye on Emory Events
If you’re a student at Emory, rest assured the University always has something right around the corner for you to enjoy without having to spend a dime. Checking for newsletters and promotions around campus is a great way to find a way to spend your free time with some friends.
Also keep in mind that many places will offer a student discount! For example, the Fernbank Science Center lets you visit the observatory and exhibits for free, with planetarium shows priced at only $5 for students.
- Other Updates
One of the greatest things about Atlanta is that there is always something going on. Sites like Eventbrite are constantly promoting sales and free functions. DiscoverAtlanta is also a fantastic resource for those looking to explore the city this fall.
